Diggin Out of Denver

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Today is the day we’re diggin out of Denver.

Since I talked to you’ll last we had a wonderful time at the Colorado Dulcimer Festival, then we came to Aurora Colorado to have a “hot” jam with some South Plains College Alumni. I knew there was a big winter storm blowing in Monday night so I’d checked numerous weather sites and had formulated a plan. The snow was scheduled to start in Aurora by 1:00am, Colorado Springs by 3:00am and Canon City by 5:00am. SO…my great plan was that Erin and I would take off in the van headed for Canon City no later than 12:00am. WELL, let me tell you what, at 9:30pm the storm blew in, and when I say BLEW in I mean it. It was CRAZY blizzard, snow falling about 1inch per hour. So by the time I had the road conditions checked it was WAY to late to get out of town. So, we thought, we’ll stay until morning then head for Canon City…..haha That didn’t work either. It ended up that our gig in Canon City got canceled because the weather was SO bad. Erin and I stayed in Aurora Colorado with our great friends Kirk and Donna Mlinek. They were so kind to let us stay an extra night!
Erin and I got to enjoy our snow day by going on a walk with their dog Bean, it was fun trudging through the snow! Our afternoon was filled with practice and quilting for me.
I’m happy to report that I’ve completed the hand piecing of my quilt! I”ll be moving on to the sashing over the next few days!

I don’t know too much exciting news, We’ll see how the highways are today, the sun is shining bright and we’re going to try to make it down to Folsom, NM. Our next gig is on Friday night in Los Alimos, I hope that if you live around there you’ll plan to come out!

Thanks for reading and I”ll see ya down the road!
