Sept. 21, 2010 Scenic Roots recently returned from our annual vacation at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. Below are some of the highlights of our week. -We played at Beiderman's Bistro in downtown Winfield on Wednesday evening, along with our dad, Doug. Right in the middle of our second set, the tornado sirens started going off. Everyone in town shuffled to the basement where we waited out the storm in safety. This goes down in history as the first time we've performed in a basement through a tornado! The National Weather Service later reported that 5 tornadoes touched down in Cowley County. Thankfully, no one in the campgrounds was severely injured and we were all able to put our campsites back together after the big storm. -We played at Front Porch Radio on Thursday afternoon. You can watch the video of our entire show at: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9615278. Also be sure to check out www.frontporchradio.org to hear all the music from the week and request Scenic Roots! -On Friday morning, our dear friend, adopted brother, and music colleague, Aaron O'Rourke entered the National Mountain Dulcimer Contest. AND won FIRST place! We're so proud of him. -Meanwhile, Amber decided to enter the fiddle contest on Friday evening. She walked away with a fancy plaque after placing in the TOP 5! Congratulations!! -Finally, we got a spot in the Stage 5 "Picks" on Saturday evening with our friend and SPC classmate Sam Parks. We had a great time playing with him again! That's the news for now. Don't forget to become our fan on Facebook and sign up for our E-newsletter if you haven't already. Thanks for your support!! -Erin for Scenic Roots June 1, 2010 The time has come once again for a Scenic Roots newsletter! Today's update includes news from May, our schedule for June, and a t-shirt campaign we're starting. You won't want to miss a thing, so read carefully! Here we go..... May was a busy month with the Lonestar State Dulcimer Festival [1]in Glen Rose, TX; graduation from South Plains College [2]with associates degrees in commercial music; and two gigs in Kansas. Amber also spent a week in Florida working on a music project with our friend Aaron O'Rourke [3], while Erin went to El Paso, TX on a mission trip. Pictures from the month are up on our website and on Facebook [5]. We also have two new videos up on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjn5OlrPDzY AND http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySvQ22LU1tM). June is promising to be another busy month as we set foot into the "real world." Amber and I are headed to Colorado on Thursday, where we will spend the rest of the month working with our booking agent, Kirk, to formulate a complete business plan. We'll also be playing around the area some, and will be joined by one of our former classmates, Devin O'Toole, on guitar. Check our calendar for the list of shows. We've been brainstorming about a lot of things, so this will be our time to sort through the ideas and make a plan! Finally, Scenic Roots needs some t-shirts, don't you think?! We're working hard on a design, but we need some input from YOU- our awesome fans! We have two questions for you. Number one: if you could choose between black and gray, which would you pick? Number two: what size(s) would you order? If you will respond to this email by WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9TH, (or post your answer on Facebook) we'll enter you into a drawing for a FREE Scenic Roots t-shirt! Thanks for your input! This now concludes this month's newsletter. Thank you for tuning in today and we hope you'll join us again next time for more exciting adventures with Scenic Roots. New CD: "The Bound for Somewhere EP."  Featuring five of our favorite songs and our friend Devin O'Toole playing guitar.  To celebrate, we'll be doing a big release concert at our favorite local coffee shop (for those brave enough to get out in the snow!).  The show is TONIGHT, February 1st from 7-9pm at Jitters Coffee House in Concordia, KS.  It's a free concert and the first time our EP will be available to the public!  EPs are also for sale on our website, iTunes, and other digital music distributers.  New website: www.scenicroots.com.  In December, our wonderful webmaster, Don Shorock, passed away suddenly.  This prompted us to start over on our site and re- vamp the whole thing.  Our friend Curly quickly stepped up to help us with all the technical stuff.  We hope you like it! New Tour: Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma.  We're really "Bound For Somewhere" in our big green band van throughout the entire month of February.  We're playing at festivals, coffee shops, churches, house concerts, and teaching some too.  Be sure to check out our show schedule at the bottom of this email.  Come see us somewhere down the road! Closing Thoughts: We don't know for sure where we are bound, but we are most definitely Bound for Somewhere.  We've come a long way in the last year and we are excited about where we're headed this year.  Your support has made it happen!  Thank you for joining us on the journey.  And don't forget to pick up a copy of "The Bound For Somewhere EP" today! -Erin for Scenic Roots
